Whether you’ve always dreamed of performing on stage, enjoy being creative behind the scenes, or simply want to meet new people and become part of a friendly local community, we’d love to welcome you to Bishops Cleeve Players.
You don’t need previous experience — just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to get involved. Our members are all ages and come from all walks of life; everyone brings something unique to the group.
Whatever your interests, there are plenty of ways to be part of our productions.
Take to the Stage
Acting is at the heart of what we do. Each production begins with a read-through of the play then open auditions, where members have the opportunity to be considered for a variety of roles.
Whether you’re an experienced performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, you’ll find a supportive environment where you can develop your confidence and enjoy bringing great stories to life.
Join the Thespian Wannabees
Not everyone wants to perform in front of an audience — and that’s perfectly fine.
Our Thespian Wannabees acting group is designed for people who enjoy acting simply for the fun of it, or who would like to build their confidence before considering a public performance.
Some members go on to audition for productions, while others simply enjoy the group as a hobby. There’s no pressure — just a chance to enjoy acting in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Behind the Scenes
Every successful production depends on a fantastic team working behind the curtain.
If you’d rather not perform, there are countless opportunities to get involved, including:
Stage Management
Helping to organise set construction prior to the show and scene changes to ensure performances run smoothly.
Set Design & Construction
Designing, building and painting scenery that transforms the stage.
Lighting & Sound
Setting it all up beforehand and then operating the technical equipment during performances to help create the atmosphere of each production.
Costumes & Wardrobe
Creating, sourcing and maintaining costumes to bring every character to life.
Props
Finding, making and managing the many props needed throughout each production.
Front of House
Welcoming audiences, checking tickets, selling programmes, serving teas and coffees and helping everyone enjoy their visit.
Publicity & Marketing
Helping promote our productions through posters, social media, local press and community events.
Administration
Supporting the show with the many tasks that keep everything running smoothly.
Learn New Skills
Many of our members discover talents they never knew they had.
Whether it’s learning lighting design, building scenery, stage management, public speaking or acting, being part of Bishops Cleeve Players is a fantastic way to develop new skills while making lasting friendships.
Become Part of the Community
We’re much more than a theatre group. Throughout the year we enjoy social events and spending time together outside of productions.
Many of our members have been with us for years, while others joined recently and quickly became part of the family.
