Our next production:

THE LADY VANISHES

A comedy thriller

adapted by Derek Webb from the novel by Ethel Lina White

Directed by Sandy Newman

An amateur production by arrangement with Stagescripts Ltd.

Iris Carr faints whilst waiting for a train to take her back to the UK after holidaying in Eastern Europe. Once on the train she is in a compartment where she meets Miss Froy. Shortly after chatting with her Iris falls asleep. When she wakes  up she is surprised to find that Miss Froy is no longer there but when Iris asks the other travellers where Miss Froy has gone, she is astonished when they deny she was ever there.  This stage adaptation goes back to the original novel and tries as much as possible to capture the 1930s feel and of course solve the mystery of “The Lady Vanishes.”

Tickets now available online and at George Lewis Footwear in Bishops Cleeve.

As seating is allocated please let us know if you buy tickets in different names but wish to sit with friends.  Thank you.

In November 2025 we performed:

Love Begins at 50

by Raymond Hopkins

Thank you to everyone who came to see the play and to our many returning audience members for your continued support of the Players.  Judging by the laughter and very positive comments everyone really enjoyed the show.  Thank you to those of you who donated to our charity for this year; The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.

Well done to the director Mike Fuller, cast, crew and Front of House members for putting on yet another successful production.  (Look out for Suzie the Goldfish in the New year as she will be appearing in a new play called “A Fish called Suzie”)

An amateur production by arrangement with Stagescripts Ltd.

In March 2025 we performed:

Agatha Christie’s

The Hollow

Thank you to everyone who came to see the show and for all your kind compliments and generous donations to the Great Western Air Ambulance, our charity for the year.  Congratulations to the cast, crew and front of house staff who made it possible.

What a fabulous production and what a wonderful celebration of 70 years of the Bishops Cleeve Players!  A few photos below.

This amateur production of “The Hollow” was presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk

“Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) are thrilled to have the support of the Bishops Cleeve players this year.

GWAAC provides lifesaving emergency care across a region of 2.1 million people and last year were called to a record 2,272 patients in urgent need. That included 621 patients in Gloucestershire.

By supporting our local air ambulance charity we are all part of a team that ensures the most sick and injured people in our shared community receive the best possible chance on their worst day: GWAAC’s Specialist Paramedics and Critical Care Doctors perform hospital Emergency Department care, but at the roadside, in a field, in your home…wherever they are needed. By getting this specialist team to the patient – fast – they save lives that would otherwise be lost.”

Final thoughts on The Good Life

Our production of The Good Life by Jeremy Sams, on 8th and 9th November was a sell out!  Congratulations to cast, crew and front of house staff who all worked very hard to make this the success it was.

Everything in the garden was good – but not for Margo and Jerry.

For Tom and Barbara life was good!

Cast and Crew

Tony Domaille, the author came to the matinee performance.

Ready – set – go!

Mmm – bit of a domestic by the look of things!

This year we are supporting the charity Gloucestershire Bundles.  They support children and their families who have been referred by a health care professional for help and support.

Gloucestershire Bundles is a charity providing emergency packs of toiletries, clothing and equipment to pregnant women and families with children up to the age of 16, who find themselves in crisis situations.

Thank you to everyone who came to see our Autumn 2023 production at Bishops Cleeve Tithe Barn

The Hound of the Baskervilles

The cast and crew were amazing and there were many well deserved compliments for the acting, the set and the production itself.  We were lucky enough to sell out both evening performances with only 6 seats remaining for the matinee.  Below are a few photos of the actors and the set.

Who Shot the Sheriff? by Chris Martin was a great success with sell outs for each performance.  Thank you to our great audiences for making it such fun and joining in with the quiz and whodunnit competition.  Some of the comedy suggestions were hilarious.  Honestly some of our audience have great imaginations!

Just a few photos below of our great cast – what teamwork and thanks to the brilliant backstage crew.  We couldn’t do it without you.

Welcome to

Bishops Cleeve Players

Bishops Cleeve Players began in 1955 with our very first production in 1956 of “The Hollow” by Agatha Christie and thereafter the Players typically staged two full-length productions each year.

Over the years we have presented a wide variety of productions, ranging from high drama to knock-about farce, from subtle comedy to Victorian Melodrama and a diverse range of one-act plays.  Many of these productions won awards over the years and in its 50th anniversary year won Best Play in the Gloucestershire One Act Play Festival.

With the growth in the range and sophistication of home entertainment, the world of live theatre has found it increasingly difficult to persuade audiences to leave the comforts of home to go to the theatre.  The modern audience also demands a fresh and dynamic standard and variety of entertainment.  So it was that the Players evolved again and developed a formula, which enables us to take an increasingly varied and eclectic programme of entertainment to the audience.

Following our May 2007 production at the Playhouse we began to take our shows into the local community with shows that are a flexible mixture of Light Entertainment and One Act Plays and our reception from the audiences has confirmed that there is a sound and encouraging future for live entertainment out there for those willing and able to go for it.

We are always pleased to welcome new members. The events we present are ideal for busy people who can afford limited precious time for greater leisure commitments. They are also ideal for developing and nurturing talent.  If you would like to entertain others and enjoy yourself in a friendly group get in touch via our contact form on the membership page.

Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the show.
