Cinderella did go to the Ball

Cleeveton Abbey – The Real Story of Cinderella

Tithe Barn Bishops Cleeve 25th and 26th November 2016

Well the dust has settled on the Tithe Barn stage again and the Players have left Cleeveton Abbey and Hardup Hall for the last time.  Our audiences seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we did. Both on stage and back stage crew have worked very hard to make this an enjoyable performance and we have had many laughs along the way.  It was fantastic to have so many young members with us in this production with their tireless enthusiasm and energy.  Here are a few photographs of us all – backstage and onstage.

Did you know that Christmas and the Panto Season are fast approaching?
Oh, no they’re not! Oh, yes they are!
And this year the Bishops Cleeve Players are presenting:-

Cleeveton Abbey – The Real Story of Cinderella

It’s written by local author John King. John is new to the area and the Players having moved here from Oxfordshire last October. His script was written and performed in 1990 but has been re-written and updated to include references to local villages and businesses. The title, “Cleeveton Abbey” was inspired by that well-known TV success, Downton Abbey. However John has retained all the traditional elements found in “Cinderella”.
So there is Prince Charming (played by Daz Cave), who meets and gives his heart to Cinderella (Hannah Galliers). Along with her Ugly Sisters (John and Mark King), there is a Fairy Godmother (Sue Taylor), Dandini (Kieren Hutt) and, of course a glass slipper. This version also includes a dark and dastardly villain, Diablo (Brian Paterson).
Staging this production has been a bit of a drama in itself. One actor left to go to Italy for love. Another had to drop out in order to have an important operation. This has all lead to John not only directing but also appearing as one of the Ugly Sisters! You really couldn’t write this.
